hello welcome to story news my name is Leah and my name is Emma and Julie Gonzalez and today we have so many really cool events to share with you first we have Natalie in front of Library telling us about New Year's Eve earlier this month we celebrated New Year's your some history on New Year's resolutions are said to be the first people to make New Year's resolutions over 4000 years ago they made girls at the start of each year and they returned borrowed objects and pay their debts the Romans also begin each year by making Promises to the God Janus For Whom the month of January is named after we'll be interviewing a few of our montemalaga students who are we telling us about the 2019 goals and resolutions thank you my New Year's resolution is to get onto the All-Star steam inside becoming a horseback rider and jumping with bigger jump station soccer and basketball player montemalaga students has so many great goals they're so interesting as most of you know our V recently had a state fair he was Malia telling us more about it the state fair is a fifth grade annual project for the fifth graders to the state and research the fifth graders are challenged to create a display board representing the stand and work on an oral presentation to show what they learned the state fair was a time before winter break and was presented on January 11th here's a closer look hello today we have Kylie and Ava say did you guys to Wisconsin why did you choose that I love cheese in a state that you do. I did Tennessee I just want to say because my cousins live in Tennessee what was your favorite fact about that state importance with the most States and where the fun yes I was really fun thank you for coming refrigerators made so many creative project Adventure favorites every year the 5th graders have a tower challenge to work out the Engineering Process to tell us about this project our challenge was on January 18th teams the students have been working really hard not only to build towers but to make a PowerPoint presentation about the Engineering Process the challenges for teens to research design and build hours to hold as many golf balls as high as possible James earned a score by multiplying the number of golf balls held by how high they reached this year's top scorer with 775 points 25 golf balls held at 3 1 inches high by Lil yachty and Ryan fought wow can you believe that the 5th graders made a whole Tower with only 50 straws I do know montemalaga Elementary does a program called never ever give up or Lego it support the kids in the hospital who have cancer let's learn more about that with Aria Foundation that raises money kids with cancer kids and dolls and famous people donate and make Toys R Us have you ever wondered where it started and who started it will her name is Jesse Ruiz she had two brain tumors for 10 month in two days on January 5th 2012 dress down fortunately past but that did not stop negu Foundation from giving a she's turning 20 this year so negative goal is to make 20,000 Joy jars we encourage you to keep donating entities try to help make jojos destroys are getting collected on the 2nd to the 3rd trimester who is a lot more than just filling a bottle with dimes so we had an extra day off of school this month because of Martin Luther King jr. do we have Mia telling us more take it away Malia on Monday January 21st we have the day off of school do you know why it was Martin Luther King jr. day Martin Luther King jr. was born on January 5th 1929 in Atlanta Georgia Martin Luther King's Junior's father was a Baptist Minister and his mother was a school teacher Martin Luther King jr. married Coretta Scott in 1953 and had four children Martin Luther King jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his role of fighting for human right through non-violent protest Martin Luther King jr. was killed in Memphis Tennessee he was shot by James in 1983 a new federal holiday dedicated to Martin Luther King jr. was founded by President Ronald Reagan the holiday was first observed four years later 1/8 1980s after some states were reluctant to adopt the new holiday but since the year 2050 states have celebrating Martin Luther King jr. day Martin Luther King jr. was such a good person I heard there's a new toy on the upper playground Oh you mean the magnetic boards yes Malia came here to tell us about it Somalia what is the magnetic board I'm glad you asked Emma my name is Mal and I'm going to tell you more about the magnetic well magnetic wallet on the upper field near the sandbox they use Rings walls and pipes to make a creative path for the ball to run down but to be safe and for everyone to have fun we need rules the rules are very simple so cute rule number one be gentle with the moving magnet number to keep the magnets in the Blue Creek number three only roller would involve number for only allow 5 players at the wall out of number 5 while you're waiting count to 10 slowly four times the kids have so much fun in our and are never bored while they play their start to understand about Newton's Laws of Motion is which is great it also challenged children's isn't that awesome what I want is my next.
