Principal's Message

Look a Like Day
A Message from the Principal…
The holiday season is always a special time to be grateful for our families, friends, health, and our great community.  I want you to know how much I appreciate all that you do daily to support not only your own children but also all the students at Montemalaga.  Thank you and best wishes for a very happy and wonderful New Year!
We have just completed the first trimester of the 2019-2020 school year.  Our Montemalaga students are demonstrating good progress.  Teacher/Parent conferences provide an opportunity to discuss any concerns, questions and to celebrate the accomplishments of the first few months of school.  As we begin the second trimester, all grade levels are practicing for their upcoming music performances.  The PTA will be hosting a Book Fair in the library during the week of December 9th.  Please be sure to visit the Book Fair and purchase any of your special holiday gifts.  Your on-going support for Montemalaga is greatly appreciated.  We continue to purchase STEM items and needed computers and iPads to keep our Science/STEM lab and our technology needs up-to-date.  Teachers continue to receive district professional development in the following areas:  peer coaching, the new science standards, English language arts adoption along with writing and readers workshop, math, Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS), and the student report card.  The PVPUSD continues to provide professional development so teachers can be very current and knowledgeable in all subjects in order to provide instruction ensuring student progress.
In January, Montemalaga will begin working on publishing a school newspaper.  I am excited to work with teachers, parents, and a talented group of student reporters.  We plan to produce two publications between January and June.  Please check the Weekly Memo for all newspaper updates.  Telling the stories is a very important part of communication and learning from our community.  Our Superintendent, Dr. Alex Cherniss recently sent a message to all staff and families about the importance of spending time together.  Listening to one another and sharing ideas are often activities that are sometimes forgotten in our busy days. The holidays can be a wonderful time to make time for family and friends…to create memories. Again, I wish you all a very fun-filled holiday season.  I look forward to hearing about the stories and memories. Winter Break begins December 20 with a minimum day.  School resumes on Monday, January 6, 2020.
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Jody Pastell, Principal
