I recently heard that the great rains that we have been having will cause beautiful spring wild flowers to bloom on the hillsides all over the state. I am looking forward to seeing all of the spring flowers in the next few months! I will take sunny skies and beautiful flowers over gray cloudiness any day!
Speaking of spring, the district’s spring emergency drill will be focusing on practicing a school evacuation in case of a chemical spill, a swarm of bees, gas leak, etc. Every school in PVPUSD has an established offsite evacuationpoint. Our evacuation site is Silver Spur Elementary. Montemalaga’s spring evacuation drill will take place on April 10, 2019. For this drill, we will practice walking a few blocks off campus and then return back to Montemalaga within a thirty minute period. Grades Transiitional Kindergarten through Grade 3 will practice the evacuation drill either on March 11, March 18, or March 25. The grade level will be deciding exactly when they practice. The classroom teacher and I will be walking with the students. Grades 4 and 5 will walk a few additional blocks towards Silver Spur Elementary the afternoon of April 10. Our school has purchased STOP signs to take with us. Teachers have orange vests to wear and students in primary grades will walk holding a long rope to keep the entire class together.
Thank you for understanding the importance of safety drills and every student knowing what to do should there ever be an emergency situation. The PVPUSD has worked very hard to make sure that all schools are prepared and supported in case of an emergency.
Please feel free to see me with any questions, comments, or suggestions regarding student safety.
