Principal's Message

Look a Like Day
Friday, April 3, 2020
I hope that Spring Break was spent doing many fun-family activities and projects. It is amazing to think about all the puzzles that we now have time to complete, the great new recipes we have the afternoon to try, or the garage shelves that finally get organized! Whatever you did, I hope you created some great memories with your family!
Teachers continue to plan and collaborate with their grade level to provide assignments and lessons for students. Be sure to check for posted assignments by 9:00 AM Monday and Wednesday mornings. Some teachers may post assignments two or three days at a time; while others may post the entire week on Monday morning. Please direct any questions about assignments to your classroom teacher. All teachers have live learning/connection time with their students. Please make sure that you know your class schedule and let the teacher know if you have questions. We will work together to resolve any concerns. The teachers and I appreciate all your hard work and understanding. All of us continue to try to figure out family schedules, work schedules, etc. We are looking forward to the day when we can have a "normal" day once again back at Montemalaga.
Wishing you all a great week back from Spring Break-

Spring Break 2020
A few months ago, when we were all thinking about Spring Break, we never thought that we would be staying home to remain healthy instead of traveling, going to the beach, or visiting friends and family.  I am hearing stories about how the “home” time is helping families to organize closets, garages, photographs, complete projects, and to just spend time with each other cooking, playing games, exercising, reading, etc. Whatever your daily activities are, be sure to enjoy the quality time.

I would like to thank all our teachers for working together, planning, and communicating instruction and information to students and parents.  The pandemic crisis came very quickly and the entire PVPUSD has been working nonstop to plan and support staff and the families in all schools.  With the additional weeks of the direction to “stay home”, the District is working with staff to provide consistent schedules for online instruction/connection for students.  I expect that after Spring Break I will be able to share updates with you regarding any changes with online instruction.  Thank you for working daily with your children to ensure that they are completing assignments and accessing the curriculum.  Together we will get through the next several weeks.  We are all looking forward to that Monday when we return to Montemalaga ready to start the week by hearing the ringing of the library bell.
Please stay healthy-

Friday, March 20th Update
The Montemalaga faculty and I met this morning via Zoom and discussed what the extended learning model will look like at Montemalaga.  Teachers have done an outstanding job posting and communicating lessons for all students.  Beginning after Spring Break, teachers will be using video applications such as Zoom and/or Teams in Office/365 on a regular basis.  We are still in the planning and organization stage of exactly what this will look like.  I am meeting with teachers weekly and planning to the best of our ability as we get through this difficult time.  All teachers remain focused on providing the Essential Standards and also many supplemental activities for their students.
I will provide weekly updates to our Montemalaga families.  Please stay healthy and take good care of your families.  We miss seeing all of our great students and parents at Montemalaga!

All the best,
Mrs. Jody Pastell
Friday, March 13th Update
The Montemalaga staff has been working quickly to organize assignments and projects for students in all grade levels as we all struggle to get through this difficult time with the spread of the Coronavirus.  Please know that communication is very important during the next few weeks.  All teachers have shared how they plan to provide information and student work to be completed.  Should you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to email your teacher. I can also be reached at at any time.  We will respond back to you in a timely manner.
The teachers and I sincerely hope that your families all remain healthy.  We already miss being at school and participating in all the learning activities and programs that Montemalaga offers with our students and families.  Hope to see you soon.

All the best,
Mrs. Jody Pastell, Principal
