Best wishes for a very successful, happy and healthy New Year. The month of January is typically a great month for observing student achievement and maturity. All the great instruction and learning experiences from the first few months of school seems to make sense to students and the results are amazing! They know about doing their personal best and learning from mistakes. Students are showing kindness daily without having to think too much about it. Sharing and cooperation are observed in the classroom, hallways, and on the playground. Our students are doing a great job understanding the point of view of a peer and listening to determine a solution or a compromise to a situation. What an outstanding life skill!
The month of January is also a great time for a few reminders regarding student safety at Montemalaga. Many students have life-threatening food allergies. The peanut and nut free table in the covered lunch area is to provide a safe place for boys and girls to eat who need to be away from any nuts or peanuts. Also, parents take time to plan student lunches and expect that their children will be eating only what they provide or what is provided by the school lunch. Therefore, there is never any sharing of food. If a child does not have snack or lunch, the office will help to problem solve the situation. Thank you for following these food guidelines.
About a month ago, I sent out a list of reminders for safety in the school parking lot. Please take a minute to review the traffic guidelines and always drive slowly when going through the school drop off and pick up area. Our PTA has been a tremendous help with traffic this year. Your efforts are much appreciated!
And finally, the last reminder is regarding school attendance. Our daily attendance is monitored by the PVPUSD and the State of California. We need to maintain high student attendance rates—this includes minimizing the amount of tardies each day. It is very important to plan family vacations during days when school is not in session. If you must be gone for five days or more, be sure to complete an Independent Study in the office. With the beginning of 2018, please make every effort to leave your house ten minutes earlier in the morning to make sure that boys and girls arrive on time. Watch the Weekly Memo for a day at the end of January (and in the following months) when Montemalaga will be identifying a day where we will be attempting 100% attendance for the day!
