Principal’s Message
The last trimester of the 2017-2018 school year is going to pass by quickly.  This is partially because time flies when there is so much fun happening daily.  The other reality is that the last few weeks are very busy with state testing, Honorary Service Awards, special activities, and classroom projects.  I would like to thank the entire staff, PTA, and parents for always putting children first and making sure that the educational experience at Montemalaga is exceptional!  The calendar for next year will be planned with staff and PTA input.  I look forward to “growing” our character program and continuing the acknowledgment of positive behavior. The Wednesday Garden program, science presentations in the lab, AAYF, SPIRIT Days, Special programs / activities, and so many exciting events to promote family involvement at Montemalaga will be part of the planning for the next school year.  Please see Jenny Handjian to share your input and ideas.
State testing begins the third week of April and will finish, at the elementary level, by May 11.  Teachers have testing schedules and are excited to be testing in the computer lab and in the classroom—thanks to the use of Chromebooks!  It is very important that we have 100% attendance of our grades 3-5 during testing.  Please make sure that students arrive to school on time, are well rested, and have eaten a good breakfast.  We have scheduled a few times for make-up tests, due to illness, should it be necessary to test at additional times.  Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated as we complete the state testing requirements.
Congratulations to our PTA officers for the coming year.  The PTA at Montemalaga does an amazing job providing activities and special family events along with supporting the needs of the classroom teachers.  Thank you all very much for your involvement and great work creating so many fabulous memories for students, staff, and parents.
Fifth grade promotion will take place on Tuesday, June 5.  The last week of school is very busy for our fifth graders.  Thank you to the grade 5 promotion committee for your work making sure that the fun day, special lunch with teachers, yearbooks, and promotion ceremony are very exciting and filled with memories.
Please stop by the office anytime to share your thoughts and ideas as we begin planning for next fall.  This last trimester of the school year will be a strong finish for Montemalaga students!
Mrs. Jody Pastell, Principal
