Principal’s Message - January/February 2017

Happy New Year to all of our Montemalaga students, families, and staff! The New Year is already off to a great start…Northern California is officially no longer considered to be in a drought condition. Southern California’s drought is improving. Perhaps after a few more rainstorms we will be putting an end to a five year period of insufficient rainfall. Speaking of rain, our students have done remarkably well adjusting to days without running outside at recess and being inside at lunchtime. Thank you all for keeping our students healthy and safe!

Yellow Ribbon Week (January 9-13) has been focusing on Kindness. The Montemalaga Student Council wrote a Kindness Pledge and presented it to all classrooms. Our school is hoping to total more than 5,000 acts of kindness in our journals during the next few months. Imagine a school where respect, responsibility, caring, kindness, and doing one’s personal best are daily occurrences by every student. Montemalaga is on the road to being that school! Montemalaga’s Principal for a day will take place on January 23 and January 30. Our student principals will visit every classroom, make special announcements, talk to student groups, and make several important decisions for the school. There is even a very special lunch scheduled for each day!

The annual Montemalaga Variety Show is coming! Students and teachers are very busy creating and practicing their many talents for the show on February 3. Please be sure to enjoy an evening at Montemalaga to view this great program.

The Montemalaga Fun Run is scheduled for February 27. We love this event and can’t wait to support our PTA and school programs. Every week is filled with exciting activities planned by Student Council, PTA, or staff. The Weekly Memo posting each week provides the latest information about Montemalaga Elementary.

The New Year is already filled with many fun and exciting activities. In addition, teachers and students are discussing both short and long-term goals for 2017. We are very aware of what we all want to accomplish and how we want to grow as individuals. Teachers are supportive and plan discussions to help with developing leadership skills and confidence building for students. Montemalaga Elementary continues to be an outstanding place to learn each and every day!

With warm regards,

Jody Pastell
