Hello Montemalaga Families,

We are excited to have our TK-3rd grade student back this coming Monday and 4th-5th on April 26th.

4th-5th Grade: Full-day return will be on Monday, April 26th.

During the week of April 19th-23rd, all students will be dismissed at the front of the school.

Starting the week of April 26th, students grades 3rd - 5th will be dismissed out the back gate.

Drop-up & Pick-Up TK- 5th Grade: Starting Monday, April 26th, all students will be dropped off at the front of the school in the morning to allow our team to check the COVID screener or "green-screen". Dismissal for TK-2nd grade will be held at the front of the school. Grades 3rd - 5th will be dismissed out the back gate unless they have a younger sibling in grades 1st - 2nd grade.  If a student has a younger sibling, please have them meet their brother(s) or sister(s) at the school's front for pick-up.  Please click here for more information.

Please note that we will continue to have Wednesday online instruction and early release on Mondays.  Read through our drop-off and pickup procedures online and follow all traffic signs. There are no left-hand turns into the parking lot, and please watch for students who are walking to and from school.  If you have children with different dismissal times, please make sure to exit the parking lot after each pickup to avoid congestion.

  • Students will eat at the blue benches. Our 5th grade students may use the 5th grade park area.
  • After 10 minutes of eating time, students will be permitted to play for the remainder of lunch.
  • We will provide sports equipment, jump ropes, hula hoops, chalk.
  • Students will also have access to the play structure during lunch playtime.
  • Students will follow social distancing and mask regulations during lunch and playtime.
  • Recess/snack will take place daily for 20 minutes.
  • The same playground equipment and behavioral expectations during lunch will apply to recess.
  • Playground equipment will be cleaned at least once/day.
  • Recess and lunch are staggered into four different sessions, so that we can ensure appropriate spacing/safety among students.

Green Screen & Drop-off Process

  • Parents/guardians still need to provide the green screen at drop-off.
  • Green Screen,  https://bchdcovidscreen.org/ please fill out your green screen at home before coming to school. The internet service at Montemalaga is spotty, and you may not be able to access this link if you are on campus. It is helpful if you make this a shortcut app on your phone for easy access and take a screen shot of the green screen with the current date to present at drop-off.
  • All family members must have their masks on in the car before someone approaches to check the green screen.

Drop off and Pick up Procedures

In Front of School:

  • Traffic will move south on Via Acalones.
  • You need to take turns at the stop sign north of school.
  • Turn right into the drop-off/pick-up area.
  • No left turns are allowed into the parking lot between 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
  • Do not cut in front of the line.
  • After you turn right into the parking lot, wait until you are in the yellow drop-off/pick-up area and drive as far forward as possible along the yellow curb before letting off or picking up your children.
  • Attendants will be on duty for safety.
  • NEVER leave your car unattended along the yellow drop-off/pick-up curb.
  • The green area is for Kid’s Corner drop off or pick up only. Kids Corner parents can bypass the line and park in the green zone.
  • Be sure to turn right when exiting the parking lot. There are no left turns allowed between 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
  • Be sure to avoid the red curb areas on the streets surrounding Montemalaga.
  • If you plan to leave your car please park on the street and walk your child to or from school. Hold hands and use the crosswalks please.

In Back of the School:

  • Students only in 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade may be picked up at the back gate and only by going north along the curb on Via Acalones.  Families with younger siblings must pick up at the front of the school.
  • Please pull forward, letting students off in the gate area.
  • Do not cut in front of the line.
  • Do not make a U-turn after picking up your child.
  • Parents should not to park across the street and walk students across. It is just too dangerous!

Always drive slowly near the school.

The safety of your child is our primary concern.

Safety Protocols

  • Students will be at least three feet apart while inside of the classroom.
  • Plastic guards will remain on the desks.
  • Students and staff will continue to wear masks and practice social distancing throughout the entire campus per LA County Guidelines.

Physical Education

  • Grades 1-5 will have PE instruction in person twice/week for 45 minutes each session.
  • TK & Kindergarten will have PE instruction in person twice/week for 30 minutes each session.
  • Bring an additional mask on PE days in case one is soiled.
  • DLA students will have 45 minutes of PE instruction on Wednesdays.

Positive COVID Tests

  • Students with a positive COVID test will need to quarantine for 10 days and monitor symptoms.

Sincerely,

Sandi Tsosie – Principal Montemalaga
