School Facilities Update

August/September 2019

Dear Montemalaga Families,

Montemalaga Elementary was built in 1960.  The school was renovated in the year 2001.  There are ten buildings and the school is a single level.  There are 38 marked parking spaces.  Our school has a Facilities Committee working with the District Facilities Committee to establish the top priorities for Montemalaga’s school improvement.  Teachers have also provided input to this committee.  The top priority for our school is air conditioning.  Another priority is to increase, reconfigure, and expand the parking lot in the front of the school.  Improving playground areas is also a priority.  Our wood ball walls on the lower playground need updating.  The play structures on both playgrounds need to be improved.  The playground matting has been replaced on the lower (grades 3-5) playground.  The playground matting does need to be updated on the upper playground.  Swings were installed on the upper playground for the primary grades within the last few years.

The Facilities Committee has also discussed improved fencing for the school and safety windows.  Additionally, teachers are expressing the need to remove the old carpet in the classrooms and replace with linoleum tiles.  The portable classrooms on campus need to be updated too.  School Site Council, PTA, and the Montemalaga Staff will continue to talk about Facility Improvements throughout the school year at Faculty Meetings, PTA Meetings, and School Site Council Meetings.  Please let me know any of your thoughts, concerns, or ideas to make our great elementary school even greater!

All upcoming meeting dates will be sent to you in weekly emails and posted to Edlio each Friday.  Your input is very valuable!

Many thanks,

Mrs. Jody Pastell, Principal
