New Teachers to Our School 2019-2020

Montemalaga is excited to introduce two new teachers to our fabulous staff, Mrs. Lisa Nicolello and Mr. David Barro.  Please enjoy reading about the newest additions to our teaching staff.  We are very excited about the start of another great school year.

Mrs. Lisa Nicolello:  Reading Specialist at Montemalaga Monday, Wednesday, Friday

I am excited to be joining your staff as the RTI reading teacher.  It is great to be back at elementary school where it all began—my first teaching assignment was first grade!

A thirst for knowledge, a love of reading, and a dash of drama let me to a career in teaching.  I have been a teacher for over 30 years and was with Palos Verdes Intermediate School for the last 16 years.  I have taught students of various ages as a general education teacher, special day class teacher, resource teacher, and reading specialist.  I am trained in multiple reading intervention programs and assessment products, as well as assistive technology supports.

I tend to be a very positive person, and I talk with my hands.  I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, gardening, and reading.  I am married to a wonderful (and patient) man, Kevin; and we have three children who now live in three different states.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and to collaborate with you this year.  Here’s to an exciting new adventure!

Mr. David Barro:  Grade 5 Teacher

Mr. Barro is excited about joining the Montemalaga staff to connect with amazing students and families this school year.  He has taught in our district at Point Vicente and Vista Grande and is ready to take on 5th grade for our Eagles.  Mr. Barro enjoys hiking and camping and loves exploring any trail or National Park.  Being an avid sports fan, one of his goals is to visit every MLB ballpark.  He is a kid at heart with Toy Story as one of his favorite movies and Disneyland as one of his favorite places to go.  Mr. Barro’s positivity and energy are helping to transition him to S. O. A. R into a terrific year.
