Here's why I love Math Problem Solving:
Not only will students learn core math skills, but they will also learn how to think critically.
It’s inquiry-based.
When math problems are posed kids work together and use their own strategies to solve the problems and communicate mathematical ideas in a meaningful way. It allows student to make sense of math and build upon what they already know.
It’s student-centered.
The students do the work. Help them when they need help-and even then , only help “just enough”.
It’s engaging.
Kids love a challenge! And they learn best when they are challenged to do tasks that are just a little bit hard.
It empowers students.
It teaches them how to persevere when faced with difficult tasks and it builds their confidence when they succeed.
It’s fun!
