Principal’s Message
November-December, 2017
The first trimester has passed so quickly.  Each week seems to be busier than the previous one!  Teacher/Parent conferences are November 28-30.  We will have a minimum day schedule in order to allow for enough time for teachers to schedule all of the conferences.  Report cards for the first grading period are given to parents during the conference meeting time.  Please be sure to contact your child’s teacher with any questions about meeting times.  I know that our students are making good progress with academic and social/emotional learning at Montemalaga.  Thank you for always being so supportive of our school!
The holidays are a wonderful time to enjoy family.  Thanksgiving is all about the fabulous smells of delicious food being prepared for everyone to enjoy.  Thanksgiving is also about friends and family spending time together telling stories, laughing, playing games, and being thankful for all that we have.  I wish you all the most enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday possible!  Remember that November 22 is a minimum day and school resumes on Monday, November 27.  For your information, November 22 is Very Special Persons Day at Montemalaga.  Please check with your classroom teacher for specific activities for the morning.
Winter Break will begin for PVPUSD on December 15.  The first few weeks of December will be busy as we enjoy the following activities:  Book Fair, Music Performances, All Pro Dads Breakfast, Crazy Holiday Sweater Day, and many other fun activities to celebrate the season. Check the Weekly Memo for the exact dates of all upcoming activities. Please plan family vacations during the winter break and not during school time.  We only have 180 days of school and students’ daily attendance is very important.  This means that there are 185 days when vacations can be planned!  If you find that you must be absent from school for a period of time, please be sure to complete an Independent Study form (for an absence of five or more days).  Independent Study forms are available in the school office.
The Winter Break will be filled with great memories and time with loved ones.  I wish you all a very joyous holiday season.  School resumes on January 2, 2018.
Most sincerely,
Jody Pastell
